I’m sure that every single person knows Walt Disney’s movies – the most popular cartoons in the world. On this page I would like to speculate on the topic about if this world theme is really as perfect as people think and children believe it is.

Yes, it’s obvious that you know Disney’s cartoons, but how many of you also know something about Walt Disney himself? Here are some brief facts about him.

Walt Disney was born in Chicago in 1901. He became interested in drawing at an early age, selling his first sketches to neighbours when he was only seven years old. In 1923, he founded his own film company and in 1928 created Mickey Mouse (Mickey is actually 77 years old). Donald Duck is only 6 years younger than Mickey. These cartoons characters were the most favoured at the time.

Disney also filmed many animated movies e.g. Snow White and the 7 Dwarfs, Pinocchio, Dumbo, Bambi, Cinderella, Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, Lady and The Tramp, Sleeping Beauty, A hundred and One Dalmatians, Sword in the Stone, Mary Poppins, The Jungle Book and the most recent e.g. Mulan and Tarzan.

No doubts, Disney succeeded, he found exactly what people like. He died in 1966, but his theme survived him and will be followed into further future.

Apart from this great success, we can also see the other point of view of all this. The Disney theme is everywhere. The art cartoon tradition all around the word is mostly Disney’s style. Of course we can see, that people like it, but is it right? Children who are brought up with this theme (and I can’t say it doesn’t concern myself personally) find these typical style the only acceptable way of nice cartoons. They know only them, because Disney’s cartoons are all around them. Yes, these characters are nice and well drawn, but only little stylised and all belonging into one world – DISNEYWORLD.

If this Americanisation was only in the film, no problem, but it includes also huge advertising. This is the reason why other creators can’t succeed so well – they can’t afford such an advertising. To Disney’s characters are connected other things, these are toys, souvenirs, McDonalds, clothes, mugs and others, because these rich companies can afford it. So we have factories for all these products and we employ many people in these spheres.

Let’s have look at the chain reaction. Disney company makes a new film. The music is usually composed or sung by some famous singer e.g. Elton John or Phil Collins. First goes the film, then soundtracks, videocassettes, computer games, drawn comics, toys, souvenirs, childrens wear, playing automates, Theme and Amusement parks and other attractions with this suggestion. And many people working in these spheres earn money on one carrying idea. Nowadays it is not only working animators which would paint every single part on each character with a hand. They use advanced technologies, which offer enormous possibilities.

The Disney world is one big show and a perfect medium of earning money on children’s favourite heroes – adults who open their wallets just buy what their children want and love.

The popularity of Walt Disney’s movies and characters is certainly unavoidable, but everyone has their own right to choose what to watch and buy and what not.
